Txt flash with now.sms

now.smsmlogo

Spent the last hour or so playing with now.sms. I was trying to come with a simple way to have people txt a laptop presentation. Either as a live voting thing, or to mimic the ‘txt the stage’ mechanic that you find at many big gigs.

“NowSMS is an easy-to-install SMS Gateway, MMS Gateway, WAP Push Proxy Gateway and Multimedia Messaging Center (MMSC) for Windows NT/2000/XP”

I linked my mobile via bluetooth to the laptop, installed now.sms and this allowed me to send and receive txt and mms on the laptop. The content gets stored in a folder, so it should be relatively easy to get a flash player to load this straight from the disk locally. I had to get a bit of help from Angus on the configuration settings, and outgoing MMS remains a mystery, but it did seem to be remakably easy to link screen content to a room full of mobiles.

The software has a 60 days trail and costs around £500 for a licensed version.

Preview your site across multiple browsers… for free.

Browsershots is a free service that lets you preview your site across all major browsers and operating systems. I’ve used Browsercam before, and the features on Browsershots are equal to if not better than Browsercam– however processing time is slower, taking anywhere from 30 minutes to half an hour on Browsershots, compared to 3 or 4 minutes on Browsercam.

Still, it is free, and ‘priority processing’ costs just 10 Euros a month, compared to $60 a month for the cheapest plan on Browsercam.
