Why go outside?
November 2nd, 2007 by adminFisher-Price are launching the Smart Cycle for children.
- child switches on television
- switches on ‘wheel-less bike’ and sits down
- pedals to play games
I’m feeling very old-fashioned about this and would suggest that the real thing is a viable alternative. But then I don’t have children and don’t live in constant fear of their safety on all sort of fronts. So if it gets them moving perhaps it should be applauded?
There’s a video on Amazon. It seems to have a built-in camera to allow the ‘rider’ to be superimposed on the screen. Quite clever and actually looks like it might be fun. ![]()

there’s a difference between things we can do and things we should do. i’m not saying it’s evil, but is it the right thing to do for customers - to pander to parents’ fears of outside play and generations of children already dependent on screens for company? and apart from that - do i want it in my front room?
