Google favicon revamp

Originally uploaded by hobart65

If you are of the typographic nature, you might have noticed the google favicon went lower case sometime in June. Here’s the backstory from the Google blog about the revamp . Google badly need some form of graphic device or framework to unite its ballooning set of services. Interesting that they start with the favicon, something most branding companies would do last.

” You may have noticed that Google has a new favicon, the small icon you see in your browser next to the URL or in your bookmarks list. Some people have wondered why we changed our favicon — after all, we hadn’t in 8.5 years(!)”

Shameless-plug-of-my-own-stuff alert.

I wrote another article (last one here) for mad.co.uk and it’s gone live. Titled Why is integrating digital into the agency so awkward? it discusses some of the problems that agencies face when trying to ‘go digital’ and how they might be solved or avoided.

Worth a look for the awful photo if nothing else. Enjoy.

netvibes ginger

Looks like we finally get to have our own ‘universe’ page on netvibes. For about 6 months they were only available for bands, news channels etc. It’s like a normal netvibes page (where you can aggregate all your favourite blogs and news feeds in one place) but public, so you can aggregate your flickr, bebo, myspace, twitter etc. in one place, and then share that page… in another social network… my head is spinning. Will this simplify your social networking, or complicate it further? Perhaps there’ll be netvibes universe application in facebook and social networking will eat itself?

Here’s Part 1 of an interview I did with Lord Puttnam recently as part of a podcast series for the Creative Social. Lord Puttnam started out in the ad industry golden age, but has returned to ad land as Chairman of a digital agency Profero. Six months into the role, it seemed a good time to ask him why.
The interview has been edited down to five shorts topics that will be released over the next fives days on the Creative Social Blog and PSFK.

I hope you enjoy them, and if you have any suggestions on who might be an interesting person for the Creative Social to approach, please let me know.

Lastly, big thanks to Daniele Fiandaca (Profero COO) for making this interview possible.

Blog Action Day

“On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind – the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future. Blog Action Day is about MASS participation. That means we need you!”

Podcast: Interview with Tamara Giltsoff, MD, OzozLab, Ozocar

There are 3 ways to participate create, pay or talk. I’ve created a pod cast interview with Tamara Giltsoff, facilitated by Daniele Fiandaca (Creative Social). Tamara writes for green / sustainability blog treehugger.com. Treehugger ranks 17th on Technorati and is a real destination site for these issues.

She is also MD of OZOlab.

“My passion, and goal, is to create new businesses that will rock this world and challenge the current paradigm of business practice. OZOlab is the platform for me to do this.”

OZOlab is a fascinating mash-up of eco business creation and incubation. Ozocar, a hi-tech New York limousine service using hybrid cars, is the first in a planned portfolio of businesses.

Tamara explains her motivation for ozocar and covers a range of topics including her view on Al Gore’s The inconvenient truth, how marketing and environmentalism make a perfect storm and, most uplifting for bloggers, her faith in the power of conversation.

James Cooper, on Three Minutes of Happiness, raised the question that I had on my mind :

“I have a hunch it will take more than Dave but a loose collaboration of bloggers from around the world with something to say could be the start.”

Tamara gives an inspirational view that should encourage us all to believe in the ultimate power of conversation as an engine for change.

This is not digital related, but what a great blog.

This kind of misuse of punctuation is a mystery I will never understand – it’s so baffling.

…why?
